Seriously Blizzard - How about some variety in flasks?

|

So I'm getting my Holy Paladin ready for raiding on Thursday and going through my checklist. Gear enchanted? Check. Gear gemmed? Check. Buffing reagents? Check. Buff food? Check. Flasks? Umm, nope.

So I hit up Wowhead to look at my options thinking I'll have quite a few options to choose from. There are exactly 4 flask choices. Spellpower, Attack Power, HP, and Mp5. On my Druid the choice was pretty simple, more spellpower equals harder hitting HoTs, but on a Paladin things don't seem quite as simple. My heals look to be hitting hard enough at this point that additional spellpower isn't needed so much and a lot of it would just get turned into overhealing. Attack Power and more HP are flat out useless to me. What I really need is a bigger mana pool. Mp5 somewhat contributes to this, but some cursory research over at PlusHeal showed that a lot of Paladins were using Flask of Distilled Wisdom to get a bigger intellect pool and the reasoning behind it made sense.

I thought to myself, "not a big deal I'll just go farm some Outlands herbs or buy them on the Auction House." Yeah, not quite so simple. It turns out that this flask is from vanilla WoW. I had to look at the materials list a couple of times to get this through my head. In three years Blizzard has not come out with a single upgrade to this flask and it's still being used by Holy Paladins. The auction house was able to help out with the Black Lotus for this, and some guildies had the Dreamfoil stashed away, but I had to go spend some time farming Winterspring for the Icecap.

I realize Blizzard is trying to homogenize things to make everyone's lives easier, but seriously put some choice back into this game. Let people make the tough decision of which flask to go with instead of making the choice obvious for them. I appreciate some of the thing that have happened to make the game more accessible like 10-man raids, heroic 5-man dungeons, and even some of the gear homogenization. However, dumbing the game down to the point where you don't even have to make a choice in your consumable selection, or having to go get stuff from prior content to maximize your potential is going too far.

I agree, I am having the same issue with Druid tanking. the best flask that is in the game for a Feral Bear, is Flask of Chromatic Wonder. but it's a apin to farm, and not worth the time or energy. (specially when I owe the gnome 17 billion gold)
One of the major peeves I have with Wrath, is the fact that ALL the armor has almost the exact same skins. all plate shoulders are the same, all leather shoulders are the same etc.. Everyone LOOKS the same. Nicks retadin looks like my DK. this is SOOO wrong. I hope in 3.1 they are going to be opening ALOT of new options for people.....

My Retadin looking like your DK isn't all that surprising considering they are itemized almost identically. What's really insane is that my HOLY Paladin looks the same as all the other plate wearers. I mean seriously why would a healer need spikes on his shoulders?

Because you just wish you were as UBER as Gk's Bloodknight or my Retadin. Yeah that's right, I called my Retadin UBER....
