Last night was indeed a doozy. Lots of server drama, Blue getting bashed over the head for a “crappy update”. So today, I’d like to kick off the topic of 3.1 and our opinion of it so far.
For me, I’m feeling pretty good about the patch. It does bring some bad with the mostly good. I do think a lot of the blue bashing on the forums is the usual griefers bored with nothing else better to do. Last night, I got to play more with my pally’s retribution spec. I’m disappointed by the retribution tree. While it does maintain our pve dps, the tree feels unfinished. We get a whopping 14 points left over. After putting our points in every damage ability possible, we have nothing else utility wise. This seems to be extremely excessive in my opinion, because there isn’t anything that shouts, “PUT POINTS HERE”. There are a few items to put points in to bring a bit more to the raid table, but that’s about it.
As for my protection, on the PTR I couldn’t be happier with what they have done with the spec. I’m going to give it a thorough run through on Onyxia tonight when get home from D&D.
As for server stability, it seemed for the most part, to be a very stable patch. After the realms came up, I was able to get in easily, and lag free. I even had a pretty nice boost to my frame rate in Dalaran. Although this could have something to do with everyone and their brother being in Ironforge. We’ll see how things work out leading up to our raid on Thursday.

Overall I'm mixed feelings on the patch. Rogues seem to be exactly what I thought they would. The one excellent thing is the additional rogue glyphs that have now hit live such as mutilate with a 5 energy reduction which should be beneficial. I'm still mixed on their changes and the fact that assassins still have to spec in all 3 trees without being able to take all necessary points to round us out. The change to master poisoner makes me think dps will be nice but I had to sacrifice the crit bonus from turn the tables to take this without sacrificing my other abilities. I'll have to play with it and wait for the EJ theorycrafters analysis before I can say for sure.
Like Grexis, I am VERY depressed by the paladin ret tree. I had 14 points left and ended up with talents in prot and holy to round myself out. Overall, it's depressing to see such a leftover talent pool after taking everything worthwhile in the Ret tree.
Fortunately for me the changes made to Holy Paladins don't affect PVE all that much. Yes you heard me, they managed to nerf PVP Holy without nerfing the PVE side. In fact I got a bit of a buff in my opinion with Kings becoming trainable and gaining a couple extra talent points to play with in the new Holy talent for a bit of bonus healing.
